Decisions, scores and rules
What allowed, held and blocked mean, how the 0 to 100 score works, and how to set each site's rules.
Three decisions
| Decision | What happens |
|---|---|
| Allowed | The message is delivered as normal. |
| Held | The message is kept back, with its notification email, until you review it. Nothing is lost. |
| Blocked | The message is kept as spam for 30 days and can be released. |
The person who submitted always sees your normal success message, whatever the decision.
The score and the category
Every message gets a spam score from 0 (clearly real) to 100 (clearly spam) and a category:
| Category | What it means |
|---|---|
| Real message | Customers, readers and everyone you want to hear from. |
| Spam | Link drops, crypto, gambling, adult content and other junk. |
| Scam | Phishing, fake invoices, account-closure threats. |
| SEO outreach | Offers to get your site on page one, guest posts, backlinks. |
| Sales pitch | Someone selling a product or service. |
| Job seeker | Someone asking about work. |
Each decision lists its reasons, each in plain English with a technical version alongside, for example “The email address can’t receive email (example.net has no mail server).”
Rules
Each site has its own rules, on the site’s page in the dashboard.
- Hold score (50 by default). At or above it, a message is held for review.
- Act score (85 by default). At or above it, and only when Cayve is confident, the action you chose for that category applies.
- An action for each category: let it through, hold for review, or block as spam.
The defaults block spam and scams, hold SEO outreach, and let sales pitches and job seekers through, because for many businesses those are leads. Change any of them and press Save rules.
A category set to block still only blocks when Cayve is confident. Anything less is held. A real message is never deleted on a guess.
Where to see decisions
- Dashboard: the home page shows the latest decisions as they happen. Open one to see the message, the score, the reasons and who sent it.
- WordPress: Cayve → Messages shows held and blocked messages with their reasons. See Held messages.
