Sites and keys
Adding sites, creating and revoking keys, live versus test keys, and connecting a site.
Sites
A site is one website you protect. Add as many as you like; plans count checks, not sites.
- Open Sites → Add a site in the dashboard.
- Enter the website’s address.
- The site starts in shadow mode for seven days.
Each site has its own page with its decisions, its rules, its keys, its mode and a Download the plugin button.
Keys
A key connects a website or app to one site in your account. Create keys on the site’s page with Create key.
| Key | Starts with | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Live key | cv_live_ |
Checked for real, counted, and acts. |
| Test key | cv_test_ |
Fixed answers, never counted. Use it on staging sites and while building. |
A key is shown once, when it’s created. Copy it then. Cayve stores only a keyed hash of each key, so nobody, including us, can show it to you again.
Revoking a key
Press Revoke next to a key on the site’s page. It stops working within a minute. Create a new key and paste it into the plugin (Cayve → Settings → API key) or your app.
Revoke a key straight away if it may have been exposed, for example if it was pasted somewhere public.
Moving a site
To move a website to a new address, update the site’s address on its page. The key keeps working, so the plugin doesn’t need changing.
