Held messages

When Cayve isn’t sure about a message, it holds it instead of deleting it. Your visitor sees your normal success message either way, so a spammer learns nothing and a real customer isn’t alarmed.

What “held” means for each kind of message

• Forms. The entry is saved by your form plugin as usual. Only the notification email is held back.
• Comments. Held comments go to WordPress’s own moderation queue. Blocked comments go to Spam.
• WooCommerce reviews. Treated like comments.
• WooCommerce registrations. Only a confident block stops a registration; anything less goes through and is recorded.

The Messages screen

Open Cayve → Messages in wp-admin. The tabs are:

Actions

• Release and send delivers a held or blocked form message: the form’s original notification email is sent as if nothing had happened, and the sender is remembered as welcome on this site.
• Approve publishes a held or blocked comment or review.
• Not spam appears when there’s no email to send (a sign-up, or a message during shadow mode). It tells Cayve the message was real, so the sender is welcome on this site from then on.
• Spam confirms the decision and blocks that sender on this site. A comment is moved to WordPress’s Spam.
• Delete removes the message and any email kept with it. A deleted message’s email can’t be sent afterwards.

If a released email can’t be sent (for example, the site can’t send email at all), the message stays held so nothing is lost. Fix the site’s email and try again.

How long messages are kept

Held messages wait 90 days for your review. Everything else in the inbox is cleared after 30 days.

The daily email

If Daily email is on (Cayve → Settings), the site admin gets one short email a day listing what’s waiting. On days nothing is held, there’s no email.
